HPS News and photographic events.Club SpyderThe Spyder screen calibration unit is available to club members to use once they have paid a one off fee of $10, payable to the Treasurer. The members who initially contributed to the purchase of the Spyder are exempt from the fee. The unit is available from Walch Optics where members will need to sign a book to track the unit's whereabouts. Members are asked to return the unit as soon as they have finished with it to ensure it is available to others. Mac Users Club member James Horne has provided the following advice for the use of the club Spyder with Macs. Using the Club Spyder with a Mac A.k.a. “Go on you know you want to....” The Spyder calibration unit comes in a box titled “ColorPlus” handled by the lovely people at Walch Optics. The software CD of the same name inside is for a PC platform only. However, it does have a license code printed on the CD sleeve which you can use with software for the Mac available from the datacolor website. The direct link to the download site is: support.datacolor.com. If the link doesn’t work you can find your way to the download section from homepage at www.datacolor.com under the “support” tab at the top of the page. On the download page you will find software packages for Windows and MacOS. The software of the same name as the product, “ColorPlus 1.1 – Mac” (In the Archive section lower down the page) did not work for me. It installed and accepted the license code but would not recognise the Spyder USB device. Instead, download the package “Spyder2PRO 2.3.1 – Mac”. It will create an installer icon on your desktop. Double click it and follow the instructions for a pretty straightforward installation. When you first start the program in anger you will be asked to enter the license code from the CD sleeve and then away you go. James would like to make clear that he offers no guarantees of success or that your computer will not explode in the attempt. But hopefully it works out much better than that!
